Fourteen reasons to put our man on board
Scroll the list, or tell us the problem and we will tell you which of these it is. Most instructions turn out to be two or three of them at once.
Pre-purchase survey
The full picture before the money moves: hull and structure, ballast tanks and holds to an agreed priority, machinery so far as it can be assessed alongside, class and survey status, and the last cargoes carried. Written so it can be handed to a lawyer or used in a price negotiation.
P&I condition survey
Entry and periodic condition surveys in the format clubs work in — recommendations graded, timescales attached, and a clear view on whether the ship and its management are what the entry assumed.
Sale dockings, supervision & superintendency
Superintendency through a sale docking or repair period — specification review, daily attendance, work verified as done rather than as invoiced, and a final account you can argue from.
Owner fleet audits & ISM audits
Internal ISM audits, owner's fleet audits and pre-vetting attendance — carried out to find what an external inspector would find, before he does.
Bank asset monitoring
Periodic attendance on mortgaged and leased tonnage, reported identically each visit so the file shows a trend rather than a series of unrelated opinions. Deterioration is easiest to see when the format never changes.
On-hire & off-hire surveys
Condition, bunkers and cargo spaces fixed in writing at delivery and redelivery, attended for either party. Disputes about hold cleanliness and ROB are won or lost on what was recorded on the day.
Draft surveys
Independent determination of cargo quantity by displacement, at load and discharge, with the calculation shown rather than asserted.
Port captaincy
A port captain on the berth for the whole operation — loading and discharge supervised against the cargo plan and the ship's stability, stowage and securing checked, damage to cargo or ship recorded as it happens rather than argued about afterwards.
Marine expeditor services
Your representative at the terminal, pushing the call to finish. Berthing prospects, terminal and agent liaison, cargo readiness, bunkering and stores coordinated in one place — with events logged as they occur so the laytime and demurrage position is evidenced, not reconstructed.
Towage approvals
Approval of towages and marine operations against the warranty conditions, including issue of towage approval certificates for dead tows, newbuilding deliveries and yard moves.
Warranty surveys
Attendance on marine operations where an underwriter requires an independent surveyor to approve the plan, the equipment and the weather window before the operation proceeds.
Classification history checks
A desk review of class status, outstanding conditions and recommendations, survey cycle position, thickness measurement history and steel renewal record. Often the cheapest way to kill a bad candidate ship before anyone travels.
Marine consultancy
Technical opinion where no single survey type fits — advising on scope before an inspection, reviewing another surveyor's report, or answering the engineering question behind a commercial decision.
